Prompting Tips

Use these best practice prompting tips to get the most out of your templates in Everbility.

Tip #1: AI is Non-Deterministic

What this means: The AI may provide different responses to the same prompt on different attempts.

Why this matters: You may not always get exactly the same answer, even with identical instructions. This is normal.

What to do: To achieve more consistent results, remove ambiguity from your instructions. Test prompts multiple times and refine them until you get reliable outcomes.

Tip #2: AI Requires Clear, Specific Instructions

What this means: Think of AI as a junior clinician or an assistant. Just as you’d explain tasks step-by-step to a team member, AI needs clear instructions.

What to do: Avoid assumptions. Be specific and avoid vague terms (e.g., "Give me the date two weeks from now" vs. "Provide the next appointment date").

Tip #3: Use a Gradual or ‘Iterative’ Approach

Start simple: Begin with a basic prompt (e.g., "Write a SOAP note") and assess the AI’s response.

Refine: Add more details to guide the AI towards your desired outcome (e.g., "Write a SOAP note with bullet points under each heading; no guesswork for the next appointment").

Retest: Run the prompt multiple times (around five) to ensure consistent results.

Tip #4: Structure Your Prompts Clearly

Use multi-line prompts: Press Shift + Enter to create multi-line instructions.

Include subheadings: Specify what sections you need (e.g., "Subjective", "Objective", "Assessment", "Plan") and what content should go under each one.

Give formatting guidelines: If you want bullet points, short sentences, or full paragraphs, be sure to specify this.

Tip #5: Consider Using Templates

Why they help: Templates save time and provide more consistent outputs for routine tasks (e.g., progress notes, letters).

Writer vs. Assistant: Use the Writer for structured, repeatable tasks (e.g., progress notes). Use the Assistant for more flexible, one-off tasks (e.g., quick emails or summaries).

Tip #6: Use Markdown (Or Turn It Off)

Turning it off: If you don’t want any formatting symbols (like ** for bold), simply say, “Do not use Markdown.”

What it is: Markdown is a type of formatting that allows the AI to produce headings, bold text, bullet points, and more, which export well into Word or other systems.

Examples include:

  • bold = add 2 ‘*’ on either side of the text to make it bold
  • italics = add 1 ‘*’ on either side of the text to make it italics
  • list = when making a list, add a ‘-' for your first point and then press shift enter to create dot points.

Tip #7: Include All Relevant Client Data

More data = better output: The more complete and clear the client information you provide, the more accurate the AI-generated content will be.

Be cautious with sensitive information: Keep personal information out of example prompts you share publicly. Always respect privacy regulations. Please note: You can use client-sensitive information in Everbility as it safely stores client information through encryption.

Tip #8: Apply Your Clinical Judgment

AI ≠ Clinician: AI is a tool to save you time, not to replace your professional judgment.

Double-check: If the AI tries to "fill in gaps" with assumptions, ensure you review and verify the content before finalising.

Finals Tips

Test first: Run a few trial prompts before fully relying on them.

Keep prompts short but clear: Long or unclear instructions may confuse the AI.

Update as needed: Adjust instructions or templates if you notice recurring issues.
